6 Facts About CEREC (Same Day Crowns)
1. Crowns can now be completed in just one appointment to your dentist.
It’s true! Thanks to a revolutionary new form of technology, dentists are now able to develop and permanently cerec same day crowns in just one dental appointment. The single appointment procedure involved with a dental crown is minimally invasive and can allow you to have your tooth restored within hours. At River City Dental, a number of patients have already received CEREC crowns, and we are excited to offer the treatment to other patients who may be suitable candidates.
Some of the reasons why it is becoming a popular option include:
- it involves a convenient and fast procedure
- it can be a cost-effective way to restore damaged teeth
- it can help to improve the appearance of your smile
- the process protects and conserves your existing/remaining tooth structure. Having a dental crown restoration may prevent the need for dental crowns or other forms of dental cosmetic repair.
2. It refers to the digital technology that scans your teeth.
It is an innovative and progressive type of digital technology, allowing patients to obtain dental crowns quickly and easily. Dental crowns are suitable for patients who have decay or damage to their tooth. The crown may help to improve the visual appearance of the patients smile or restore lost functionality. The CEREC computerised technology scans teeth before designing a custom crown to suit the damaged area. CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Aesthetic Ceramics.
3. Same day crowns are suitable for many patients.
Generally, same day crowns are appropriate for people who have decayed or damaged teeth, but still have a healthy and strong amount of tooth structure remaining. This strong existing structure is crucial so that the crown can be permanently bonded. Our dentist may be able to examine and assess your situation to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for CEREC. If a same day crown is not suitable for you, our team may be able to suggest other options to repair or restore your smile.
4. The CEREC process is simple.
During your visit, your dental professional may prepare your existing tooth structure by removing any damage and decay. Following preparation of the tooth/teeth, your dentist will undertake a 3D digital scan using advanced computer technology (Primescan). Your ceramic crown will then be custom-made in the Primemill based on the detailed image obtained in the digital scan. Once completed, your crown will be permanently bonded to your tooth with a strong resin cement. This process is usually completed in a few hours, so you can leave the clinic with an immediately improved smile.
Because the crowns are created using a ceramic material, the crown feels just like any other tooth. its procedure is minimally invasive and is completed in just a few hours. There are no messy impressions, no follow-up appointments to have your crown fitted and no need for temporary restorations while you wait for your crown to be made in a lab.
5. A same day crown may provide a beautiful smile for more than a decade.
Studies have shown that dental crowns can last around 10 to 15 years. That can mean an entire decade with an improved smile and better functioning teeth. Throughout this time, regular appointments with your dentist may help to ensure no further work is required on your smile.
Note that good oral hygiene and consumption of a healthy, balanced diet is essential for maintaining your CEREC dental crowns. Similar to dental implants, taking careful care of your crowns may reduce the possibility of any issues arising. By following all advice from your dentist, you can increase your chances of having a positive and long-lasting experience with your dental crowns.
