Indooroopilly Dental Checkups

While it may seem that people who enjoy excellent health are merely lucky, it’s not as straightforward as that. To ensure good dental health, maintenance and prevention are simple yet important ways to ensure that optimal oral health and hygiene are achieved and sustained.

At River City Dental we look to establish ongoing relationships with our clients and to provide all the necessary treatment and care for dental problems at all ages. The best way to keep visits simple and avoid the need for significant and costly intervention or treatment in the longer term, is to schedule regular checkup and clean appointments.

Comprehensive checkups are performed by our professional, knowledgeable dentists, ably assisted by our caring and experienced dental nurses who can put even the most nervous of clients at ease. After completion, our efficient front of clinic staff will facilitate your payment and any rebates or concessions and will schedule your next checkup – we recommend every six months for maximum care and prevention of problems.

At River City Dental we provide a holistic dental checkup service, comprising a thorough physical examination (with x-rays if required) cleaning and descaling, and lastly a fluoride treatment. Removal of dental plaque is something that needs to be done regularly – if it is not removed regularly it becomes tartar, which can only be removed by a dentist (descaling). If left too long, tartar will build up and can cause larger problems such as decay and gum disease.

As well as thoroughly cleaning the mouth and teeth for improved hygiene, fresh breath and a brighter, healthier smile, at a checkup your dentist will also provide you with advice on any other concerns or potential problems and issues such as wisdom teeth, crooked or misaligned teeth, and the best methods and equipment to use to maintain good dental hygiene at home between clinic visits.

Some frequently asked questions about dental checkups:

Is any part of a checkup painful?
Generally the examination process is pain free. Traditionally, some patients experience sensitivity during the clean, particularly when tartar is being removed, however, with the new EMS cleaning system, patients report much less sensitivity than traditional cleaning methods. See more information about the EMS Cleaning HERE.
Do young children need to have dental checkups?
As soon as their teeth appear, we recommend starting regular dental checkups. Regular checkups for children are important to look for any potential or future issues. Although ‘baby teeth’ are not permanent, if one is decayed it should be seen by a dentist to advise on treatment. Establishing good dental habits at an early age will set someone up for good dental health and oral hygiene as they age. Becoming familiar with the dental practice and dental staff is an important step in this process.
Is a dental checkup every six months necessary?
A dental checkup every six months is recommended by dental and oral health professionals, but it can be somewhat dependent on the individual. People with a high level or risk of decay may be recommended for a checkup every three months, and those at low or insignificant risk every 12 months, but for most people every six months is a good rule to follow. A good at home dental regime may also assist with requiring a yearly rather than twice-yearly checkup, but as with all questions about dental care and treatment, your dentist will advise you on the best schedule for you to follow.
